Simple Berry Chia Jam

Simple Berry Chia Jam

This really is a 10 minute Jam, with no thermometers or vats of bubbling sugar.

We love a fruity piece of toast and commercial jams are mainly sugar – even the ‘sugar-free’ ones are full of unpronounceable and blood spiking sweeteners. This is fruit filled with added goodness from chia seeds that are little health bombs. Full of calcium, protein and iron they bind it all together and fill you up with goodness.

This is an energy boost in a jar. You’ll be making it on repeat with all the berries that come your way as the seasons change.

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Strawberries/Raspberries/Blackberries/Blueberries
  • 2 tbsp Chia seeds
  • 2 tbsp runny honey
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla bean paste

Hull Strawberries, if using, and halve. Place in saucepan and heat gently, stirring for 5 minutes, bubbling gently. Smash berries with a fork or masher, until pulp. Simmer for another 5 minutes. Remove from heat, add Chia seeds and half the honey, taste and adjust according to sweetness of fruit/tastebuds. Stir through the vanilla now. Pourย into a jar and leave to thicken. Keeps in fridge for 10 days.

    Hi Lizzie,
When you heat the strawberries at the beginning, do they need to be in water or just heat them dry? My husband has put in a special request for me to make this jam!

  3. Hi Lizzie,

Going to try make this next week. However, I noticed on the ingredients for vanilla bean paste there is sugar in there. This is the same for vanilla extract. Is the amount of sugar small, so OK to use or what alternatives would you suggest. But I must admit, I haven’t cut out sugar completely, just reducing it as much as I can. Thanks x

  4. That’s brilliant. Thank you. Will try this next week as we have lots of blackberries in the freezer.

  5. Can you use vanilla extract instead? Looking forward to trying this? What does adding the chia seeds do?

  6. Absolutely amazing! So easy to make and no sugar!
